Ultra Music Festival “Postponed” by Threat of Coronavirus

Miami officials and Ultra representatives take action.

EDM enthusiasts won’t be congregating at Bayfront Park this March – Ultra Music Festival (UMF) has effectively been canceled through 2020’s end. A meeting held on the morning of Wednesday, March 4 established a consensus between Miami’s elected officials and UMF representatives: the event, which has a daily capacity of 55,000, would be postponed indefinitely due to mounting threat of novel coronavirus, COVID19. While the official statement of postponement is set to be released Friday morning, March 6, Miami Beach Mayor Francis Suarez, City Manager Art Noriega, and Commissioner Joe Carollo affirmed a resolution has been set. In UMF’s 21-year career, an event has never been missed, and while the plight of Miami’s cancellation hits closest to home, the seriousness of COVID-19 is initiating global action. Earlier this week, Ultra’s marquee set in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates was nixed by organizers as 88,251 global cases of COVID-19 have been reported and 3,000 deaths ensued. With 73 confirmed incidents of coronavirus in the US, Miami, a hub for domestic and international travel, is on high alert.
