UNIQLO Kicks Off New Partnership with Musée du Louvre

Launching a commemorative first series full of historical masterpieces expressed through the unique interpretations of UT.

Hail all art aficionados — the Japanese global retailer UNIQLO is here with a new collaboration made just for you. Coming as a part of the label’s brand-new four-year partnership with Musée du Louvre, the new UNIQLO UT X Louvre range sees historical masterpieces such as Mona Lisa expressed through the unique interpretations of UT.

“I am honored and excited to be partnering with the world-renowned Musée du Louvre; this is a longtime dream come true,” said the company’s Chairman, President, and CEO Tadashi Yanai. “UNIQLO has done much to date to share the pleasure of art with the general public, especially in keeping with our commitment to LifeWear, which is clothing designed to help make everyone’s daily life better. We hope that our partnership with the museum can enable as many people as possible to experience and appreciate the universal beauty of the masterworks in their collections.”

The Men’s UT line, dreamed up by English graphic artist Peter Saville, is designed around the theme of ‘Art and Logic.’ Focusing on the logic hidden in art — such as the inventory numbers assigned to the works held in the Musée du Louvre or the “golden ratio” used in the composition of numerous artworks — Saville incorporated these elements into the designs. “I was intrigued by the fact that at the Louvre, the world-famous Mona Lisa is known as painting ‘No. INV 779,’ which is its internal inventory number. I was inspired by that,” the artist explained. “Like many people, when I look at works of art I’m also conscious of their constituent geometry. I thought that exploring that viewpoint on a T-shirt would be appropriate for this UT x Louvre collaboration. ”

Also available in this launch is a womenswear line of UT original designs that centers on numerous works with a feminine motif left by the great masters — think the Mona Lisa with her enigmatic smile, the devoted Holy Mother in La belle jardinière or the sensual The Odalisque. Paired with floral motifs, the figures blossom vividly on the T-shirts and sweatshirts as historical masterpieces juxtaposed against streetwear’s modern touch.

In essence, the new range is bringing us a multitude of refined LifeWear based on the shared desire of UNIQLO and the Louvre to color life through art. Shop the collection here and check out the new styles from the UT x Louvre range below:
