Designer Virgil Abloh is granting $1 million in scholarships to support Black students across the United States that are pursuing careers in the fashion industry. 

The “Post-Modern” Fund, headed by Abloh, plans to put 100 Black students through college. Abloh, founder of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear, is partnering with the Fashion Scholarship Fund — a non-profit organization that supports the careers of students pursuing fashion — to manage the scholarships.

“I’ve always been passionate about giving the next generation of students the same foundation for success that was given to me,” Abloh said in a statement. “That’s why I’m excited to launch this Fund in partnership with the FSF, which has an outstanding track record of helping college students achieve successful careers.”

The Fashion Scholarship Fund, founded in 1937, awards over $1 million in scholarships each year. FSF provides scholarships, internship advice and networking opportunities for students pursuing careers in design, merchandising and marketing.

“Virgil is a trailblazer and a game-changer, leveraging his considerable influence to effect change from within,” Peter Arnold, FSF Executive Director, said in a statement.

Abloh’s program will deliver a whole range of services outside financial support. The fund intends to provide career advice and mentorship for students awarded the fund. Outside of funding fashion student’s education, Abloh’s also hopes the fund will foster “equity and inclusion” within the fashion industry. 

A number of brands and organizations have donated to Abloh’s “Post-Modern” fund. Among the contributors are Evian, Farfetch, Louis Vuitton and New Guards Group.
