Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art has just announced that they'll be debuting a new exhibition in 2019 showcasing Virgil Abloh's expansive body of work. Beginning with his art direction for Jay-Z and Kanye West in 2011, and showcasing the creation of his acclaimed label Off-White in 2014 and his present work, there will not be a limit of items to feature. MCA has said the retrospective will include a mix of clothing and collaborations, including Abloh's work with graphic designer Peter Saville and shoe giant Nike.

The 37 year-old designer, who hails from the windy city, has proved to be a force in the industry. Between garnering a cult following, collaborating with IKEA, Planned Parenthood, Guns N' Roses and AWGE, along with many more notable artists and musicians, Abloh continues to redefine the parameters of what it means to be a fashion designer.

Contemporary fashion exhibits are still a bit controversial, especially those featuring living figures. MoMA's 'Items: Is Fashion Modern' caused a stir in New York's art community by highlighting fashion for the first time in 70 years at the museum. The MET's Costume Institute draws a huge number of visitors during its annual exhibitions, and there are few competitors in the sector. MCA's upcoming exhibit will not only recognize Abloh's creative genius, but will also serve to confirm fashion as contemporary art, perhaps helping to reverse the stigma surrounding paid-for, commercial artwork.

We'll be waiting on edge for the exhibition to open in 2019, but until then Virgil Abloh is sure to keep us captivated with his upcoming runways shows in January and March. We are looking forward to seeing more of everyone's favorite designer in the next couple of years.
