VMAN Exclusive: Sean O’Pry in “Insomnia”

Lensed by Rowan Papier

In light of the public health crisis, we interviewed Sean O’Pry about his own journey in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

VMAN How did the onset of this year’s public health crisis change your outlook on life and/or work?

Sean O’Pry It made me stop and think about all the things that truly matter, and how my focuses need reshaping and learn to be more present in the day in such a fast-paced life and city. Honestly, at the moment, I’m just happy that my family and loved ones are healthy and safe. I wish the same for every one of y’all as well.

VM What have you learned (or what do you think people can learn) while in solitude and practicing social distancing?

SO People can learn about themselves and have time to stop and think about our future. I’ve also realized how we take for granted our valuable and tirelessly working health care professionals who battle on the front line every day for us.

VM Many people are reevaluating travel plans… if you were to be in one place for most of the summer, where would that be?

SO I haven’t been able to spend much time in my hometown in GA with my family, I would love to do so with my dog Lula and the lady

VM The public health climate has shaped many peoples’ reading/viewing habits—what are some reading or viewing material you’ve sought out at this time?

SO I’ve been drawing to occupy my time lately, outside of that just binge-watching streaming platforms like the rest of the world. I use Twitter to get the most up to date news from people that matter such as Governor Cuomo. I find it very handy across a broad spectrum of news outlets and easy to use. Also, actively looking for new TV show recommendations if y’all have any.

VM How have you “given back” in light of the public health climate?

SO Being in the middle of a hot zone such as NYC, the best thing I can do for the community in whole at the moment is to stay inside, and that’s what I’ve done. Until NYC gets to a safer place I’ve been actively searching and open to suggestions as to what I can do to help our communities.
