Those familiar with the work of British-Palestinian multimedia and installation artist Mona Hatoum are no stranger her motions to challenge the movements of surrealism and minimalism. Now, the Fondazione Prada in Milan will house a site-specific project by the artist titled Over, Under, and In Between. Developed as a three-part project, the installation is broken up into a trio of segments—the web, the map, and the grid— that reflect the tumultuous times humanity is facing at this very moment. Through glass-blown spheres arranged in a web, a world map illuminated with 30,000 red glass balls, and a metallic gridded structure that mimics the foundation of a building, Hatoum’s work for space visuals opens the dialogue on the fragile nature of our existence.
