VMEN: Meet Rising Rap Maverick Saam Sultan

The 20-year-old is making waves as a rapper set on defining the sound of summer.
At just 20, Saam Sultan is carving out a world of his own. Raised between London, Brighton, and Florida, the British rapper blends hazy cloud-rap textures with fashion-forward lyricism, turning bedroom-born instincts into something the wider scene is starting to lean in toward.

VMAN: Hometown?
SAAM SULTAN: London / Brighton Half raised in Florida.
VMAN: Zodiac sign?
SS: Scorpio.
VMAN: What made you decide that you wanted to be a musician?
SS: When I was a kid my mum played everything in the house. Hip hop, RnB, rock, old school stuff. Lil Wayne to Jimi Hendrix. OutKast to Pink Floyd. It was always mixed. I actually wanted to be a breakdancer first. My mum asked how I was going to fund that. I said I would be a rockstar. I was half joking but I think I meant it. From then on it just felt normal to aim for that.
VMAN: Which of your songs would you say is your most personal yet? Is there a personal favorite among what you have released thus far?
SS: Endeavour means the most to me. It captures where my head was at at that time and the things I was wrestling with. It feels real. But off pure feeling, And Delilah. That one just swag energy.
VMAN: With your EP arriving soon, what does this project represent for you?
SS: It feels like a turning point. Less proving, more owning.

VMAN: A lot of your early music started in your bedroom. How has your process changed as the audience around it’s grown?
SS: It ain’t changed. I still start from the same place. Usually alone, building from a feeling. The scale might be different now but the core is the same.
VMAN: Outside of music, what are you passionate about?
SS: Extreme sports. Skateboarding, wakeboarding, BMX racing, surfing. Growing up in Florida shaped that side of me. I still skateboard and ride wake parks whenever I can.
VMAN: How would you describe your style?
SS: Tailored. Dramatic. Personal. Either handmade or worth the obsession. Belts always made by my ma.
VMAN: How do you define success?
SS: Success is still being here when the noise dies down.
