Vroom Vroom: Automobili Lamborghini Joins Virtual Racing For the First Time

The luxury sports car company is hosting a virtual race with real life awards.

Now entering the eSports world is Lamborghini for their inaugural virtual series “The Real Race” in partnership with Assetto Corsa Competizione, a state of the art simulator, by Kunos Simulazioni. The tournament begins on Friday, with five qualifier weekends leading up to the live final at Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy.

“The Real Race” will feature sim racing, which combines the world of virtual and real racing. Lamborghini’s in-house design department Centro Stile created an exclusive race livery that’s customizable in 12 different versions by competitors. Each car will aslo display the trademark logos of Lamborghini Squadra Corse partners, including Pertamina, Pirelli and Roger Dubuis.

“Sim racing is one of the fastest growing sectors in eSports, with eSports increasingly important to younger generations,” said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini.

“I also follow it closely! This is an opportunity for us to combine the excitement of virtual racing with the appeal of Lamborghini cars and our motorsports program. ESports creates an environment where race heroes and top drivers can be challenged by anyone,” he said. “This encourages wider engagement with real-life racing, reflected by Lamborghini’s investment in this new sports platform.”

The race’s top three players from the live finals will be rewarded with a weekend-long experience in the home of Lamborghini: Italy. They will also have a chance to train with Lamborghini Squadra Corse drivers, and to drive a real Lamborghini race car at a renowned racetrack. Automobili Lamborghini remarks that the competition is open to all experience levels with registration opening on Friday, which will allow Assetto Corsa Competizione to be for free the weekend of 29-31 May.
