In the world of political turmoil and injustice that we live in today, the movies that resonate most are the ones that take these struggles to heart and makes commentary that forces us to think and act better. Based off the six-minute standing ovation it received at Cannes Film Festival, Spike Lee's newest film BlacKkKlansman is sure to be one of those poignant films.

Produced by Oscar-winning Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele, and featuring an all-star cast of John David Washington, Adam Driver, and Topher Grace, the movie tells the true story of an undercover African-American detective who teams up with a white Jewish partner in order to infiltrate and help to banish the Ku Klux Klan by disarming a Colorado branch. Given the sad events in Charlottesville last year and the rise of white supremacy to a larger platform, the film is not just timely, but desperately needed in this moment. And its early buzz from critics should ensure this is a bonafide hit. Watch the trailer below.
