Parisian artist, DJ and producer Sebastian Akchoté has released his first single for the upcoming album this autumn. "Run For Me" features R&B singer Gallant and is a stripped back, more romantic change of sound when compared to his earlier work on Total in 2011.
During those eight years Sebastian has taken a backseat role as the founder of Ed Banger Records; working with Frank Ocean to Kellis to Daft Punk and more. He's also merged into the fashion, art and film world by scoring, making soundtracks and producing most of Saint Laurent's recent runway shows and video campaigns, such as Thirst, that came out just last week.
Clearly not a procrastinator, it only took Sebastian less than 24 hours to record Run For Me. "We made it in one day, in one take without stopping. The melody evolved wherever it seemed to want to go all by itself. I tracked Gallant down for the vocals because he shared the same power and logic that the song aimed to have and I wasn’t disappointed. The song really came into its own when the vocals were laid down on the track," he said in a statement.
The video was directed by Todd Tourso, who has worked with Beyoncé, N.E.R.D and Rihanna and said that the song felt "cinematic." Through FaceTime talks, he and Sebastian came up with "something that felt like an epic tragic love story, but the post-communist version, completely stripped of context"
