Woolrich, the iconic traditional American apparel brand, has released their new “Rounds Up the Ski” Outdoor clothing collection of jackets, coats, hoodies, t-shirts, pants, hats, and bags, just in time for temperatures to drop.

Originally a woolen mill in the northern part of Pennsylvania, Woolrich has been creating practical workwear since 1830, amongst their rich history, functionality, and contemporary designs. Inspired by the brand’s ski culture in the 1970s, this new 2021 Fall/Winter Season collection celebrates their history, pulling themes from the clothing of American counterculture influencing the youth of the 60s, to more modern times. Knowing our world today has to constantly adapt to changing environments, these clothes emanate both functionality and comfort for every type of person.

The collection has three different themes, distinct for all levels of movement and coziness, including “FREE SKI,” for on-piste, or on the slope, adventures, “TRANSIT,” which is great for all types of movement, and “LODGE LIFE,” which is the perfect loungewear. These pieces are quite functional, blending waterproof layers with breathable outer layers, but also protecting the wearer from cold and snowy environments. Plus, mid-layers contain “warm, moisture-wicking, antibacterial, and deodorizing” components of wool, so you’ll be thoroughly warm and fashionable.

Some of the specific pieces include the 3-in-1 Freedom Jacket, a 70s ski-inspired coat with a waterproof, breathable outer layer and a detachable inner insulated jacket, so you can use both layers together, or separately, in a wide variety of environments. The main outer jacket consists of a two-layer laminated fabric with an environmentally-friendly PFC-free (Perfluorochemical-free) treatment, and the nylon taslan yarn in the seam sealing is recycled, made from waste material from factories and plant-derived components. There is also a removable powder skirt and wrist gaiters for backcountry activities. The inner jacket can easily be removed and contains extra warmth with VIVO^TM insulation, a combination of wool and polyester which generates heat and dries the jacket quickly. Because of the V-neck design, it can also be used as a mid-layer for physical activities or layered with a t-shirt for any and all daily activities.

Woolrich has also revived the Terra Pile Fleece Jacket from 2020 due to its popularity. Described as a “genderless retro pile fleece,” this jacket retains heat well because of the wool, and it is unlined, making it extra breathable and light. Made with nylon taffeta on the shoulders, elbows, and pocket flaps, this jacket has a loose fit, so it’s a great staple item to have in your closet for either relaxing or wearing out.

Additionally, Woolrich’s new collection is environmentally friendly, as several of the main fabrics and down materials are built with recycled materials, and the waterproof coating is made with a natural plant-based castor oil, in an effort to reduce consumption of limited natural resources. What’s more, the DWR, or Durable Water Repellent coating, was also created through a fluorine-free, sustainable process.
