Yayoi Kusama’s style is instantly recognizable; the Japanese contemporary artist has built a visual language of repeating shapes and playful immersive experiences. Kusama allows viewers to place themselves in her visual world. Her highly Instagrammable “Infinity Mirror Rooms” beckon mirror selfies, and a current show at the New York Botanical Garden lures visitors into a surreal garden of Kusama’s own creation. Now, fans can really drink in the experience of Kusama’s art – the artist has introduced a collaboration with French champagne brand Veuve Clicquot.

Kusama updated the bottle of La Grande Dame 2012 with her signature polka-dots, which she reworked so that they more closely resemble champagne bubbles. A Kusama flower echoing those on display in her current exhibition adorns the packaging, which also features the artist’s signature. Kusama even designed a sculptural case for the champagne bottle, a work titled My Heart That Blooms in The Darkness of The Night. The sculpture, a work of time-consuming creativity, is available in only 100 numbered pieces. Flowers and vines wrap around the luxury beverage, giving it an air of natural mystique.

With this collaboration, Veuve Clicquot honors creative women throughout history. At a 2016 Tokyo auction, Kusama added her unmistakable touch to an original portrait of Madame Clicquot (above). Now, Kusama is offering her take on La Grande Dame, the brand’s tribute to Madame Clicquot. The champagne businesswoman took over her late husband’s company at the age of 27, making Clicquot a trailblazer for women in the industry. The collaboration celebrates the strength of both women  – Clicquot and Kusama – and it might be the perfect toast to the strong women in your life, too.
