Dr. Martens Partners With Needles To Rework Their Original Chelsea Boot

A first-time collaboration for the historic Dr. Martens silhouette.

Dr. Martens are known for their culture-shifting collabs; think back to their previous partnerships with the likes of Raf Simons, Yohji Yamamoto and Keith Haring. Now, the brand is joining forces with another label that’s at the forefront of Japanese fashion — Needles.

Using the 2976 Chelsea boot as the canvas, the reinvented Japanese label is taking its trademark ‘Papillon’ butterfly and printing it just above the iconic yellow stitching — two brand beacons reunite once again in a first-time collaboration for Dr. Martens historic silhouette.

Designed by Keizo Shimizu and inspired by his love and admiration of American-made product and film, Needles explores the juxtapositions of American and Japanese shapes and fabrics. This is exactly the reason why Dr. Martens chose them as the collaborator to rework their Original Chelsea boot — building a shoe that’s an amalgamation of Needles’ old-school Americana and Dr. Martens unwavering DNA.

Coming in both Black Smooth leather and Cherry Red, the 2976 Snaffle NDLS is crafted to perfection in Dr. Martens Wollaston factory. Detailed with a Needles tassel, in brushed silver on the Black Smooth and antique gold on the Cherry Red, both boots are complete with a dual-branded sock liner and finished with a black-and-yellow heel loop. Made in England to the highest standards in our original Wollaston factory and loaded with decades of shoemaking heritage.
The Dr. Martens x Needles collaboration will be available in select Dr. Martens stores and on drmartens.com starting this Saturday, February 27. Check out the new collaborative boot in the gallery below:
