IT’S OFFICIAL, SCREAM 5 IS HAPPENING!

To celebrate the news of scream 5 we take a look back at the killer icons to feature in the hit-movie franchise.

Scream

When Scream burst into movie theatres in 1996 it revived the Slasher genre of the 1970s and early ’80s. The film was both a critical and commercial success, and it inspired a host of scary movies (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, Cherry Falls) that terrified a nation of 90s teens.

The movie was written by Kevin Williamson and was inspired by real-life events. The film follows high school student Sidney Prescott, one year on from her mother’s murder as a killer stalks her and her friends. It stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich (Jughead’s Dad from Riverdale), Rose McGowan, and Drew Barrymore. A sequel quickly followed as did a third movie and, then a fourth back in 2011. After much speculation and the untimely death of the franchise Director Wes Craven, it’s been confirmed that Scream 5 is officially going ahead. Courtney Cox who plays the fame-hungry reporter Gale Weathers took to Instagram and confirmed via a post that she will reprise her role for Scream 5.

Cox posted a short video of ‘Ghost Face’ with a text below that read, “I can’t wait to see this face again.” It’s not known if Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott) will be back for the new installment, but it has been confirmed that David Arquette has signed on to play Deputy Dewey. The first film featured an unforgettable cameo by Drew Barrymore, who turned down the lead role. Drew’s iconic character in Scream is often a go-to for Halloween costumes and has even inspired Jeremy Scott for Moschino. Suki Waterhouse opened the Moschino Resort 2020 show dressed as Casey Becker (Barrymore’s character in Scream).

Since it’s debut the film-franchise has bagged a stellar line-up of iconic cameo’s. Sarah Michelle Gellar aka Buffy appeared in Scream 2, as did Portia de Rossi, Jawbreaker alumni, Rebecca Gayheart, Tori Spelling, and teen heartthrob Joshua Jackson. 90’s ‘Party Girl’ Parker Posey and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) popped-up in Scream 3. While Scream 4 starred Emma Roberts and featured cameos from Pretty Little Liars star, Lucy Hale, True Blood’s Anna Paquin, Veronica Mars’ Kristen Bell and, The OC’s Adam Brody.

Scream 5 is expected to hit theatres late Autumn 2021. In the meantime check out the slideshow below to revisit iconic cameos from the franchise.
