The highly anticipated blockbuster doesn’t drop until 2021, but we’ve just got our first look at Robert Pattinson as Batman. Last night, director of the upcoming movie, Matt Reeves, teased fans hard with a 56-second clip showing Robert Pattinson as the new Batman.

In the video teaser, we see a dark room lit in red as a blurred figure emerges into the foreground, it’s Pattinson at Batman. The camera is focused on his chest, and reveals Batman’s double-winged logo made from two guns. The camera pans up onto his masked face, focusing in on the Superhero’s downward gaze. It’s dramatic and intense, and the fans are here for it. “The Official Batsuit reveal is here and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!” tweeted one, while another wrote, “I love it. It reminds me of Bateman year one.”

Other fans were quick to comment on the chest plate. “So apparently the new Bat symbol is made from the gun that Joe Chill used to kill Bruce Wayne’s parents…that’s really f***en sick if you ask me,” posted one. While another wrote: “The Batman using the gun that murdered his parents as his bat symbol, as well as a constant reminder as to *why* he dons the cape is just bloody brilliant.” The moody teaser was heightened by a score from Michael Giacchino who will compose all of the music in the movie.

Not much else is known at this stage, but last year Reeves confirmed that this movie will be a dark new take on the Batman story. “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.”

It has also been confirmed that Zoë Kravitz will take on the iconic role of Catwoman (Selina Kyle) and Colin Farrell will play Batman’s enemy, The Penguin.
